We got Ruby when she was 20 months old. This was our first time getting an older dog. We usually prefer to raise a puppy as we are able to guide their growth, socialization and development.
We sure had a tough beginning with Ruby! She pooped in her crate, went to the bathroom in the house and even pooped in the back of my truck once. She was fearful of strangers and tried to bite our vet (as he was a man!). She seemed to fear men and of course, she needed time to adjust. Being a dog trainer, these were minor concerns as we were able to give her the time to adjust and the training that she needed.
She took months for her to adapt to men. I almost gave up on Ruby many times during the first couple of months as she was a challenge to say the least. She wanted to be loved and I was determined to give that to her. She pulled at my heartstrings! So, I continued to work with her and boy am I glad I did!
She is a very loyal female......... She is bright, loyal, loving and so affectionate. She would spend her whole day in my lap if she could. She is wonderful with the other dogs, cats, and kune kune piglets. She is playful with men and children as well.
It is so amazing what love and determination can accomplish. Ruby adjusted well to strangers; male and female and has never tried to bite again. She is a wonderful mother and takes wonderful care of her babies. I think she would nurse them forever!
Ruby did not quite cut it in the ring as we could not get her championship despite even using professional handlers. She is high in the rear. Not every aussie is born to be a champion! We still love her just as much.
This girl will smile at you and show you her teeth! lol You have to see that in person. It is amazing and makes me smile everytime she does that. If I can teach her to do that for the judges, we would win everytime! lol She is a "Momma's" girl.
She has produced our wonderful Tagen who went BEST OF BREED PUPPY at 5 months of age. Ruby has give us our dear Sandy and Emma as well who are hitting the ring now. Shooter did an amazing job with breeding this girl and it shows in their offspring! I love my Rosemere/Bayshore aussie and he just brings this little lady up in the offspring they produce!
